Monday Wanderlust.

Monday is here again... I'm sure you're feeling the same way I am, wistfully reminiscing about the adventures from the weekend past... So I aim to distract you with a dose of pure summer wanderlust: a few of the world's best public pools and swimming holes!

The Myths Summer Is Made Of.

These are the myths summer is made of... Fulfilling wanderlust through long journeys... The surreal experience of completely surrendering yourself to a new world... Sharing in the joy of loved ones... Jumping from new heights, and diving to the depths of the crystal clear ocean and your soul to discover new treasures... The sun beating down on the well worn shore and your newly bronzed skin... Exquisitely new culinary delights... Tantalizing your senses with the sounds of church bells ringing, carafes of wine clattering onto tabletops surrounded by friends, chatter echoing from the cafes in the square into the wee morning hours, mopeds whirring, the delicious buzz of air conditioning, ferries announcing their arrival to port... The quiet lapping of the sea against the rocks as the sun fades on the horizon night after night...

Simply magical.

Though I have been in the habit of sharing mobile 365 snaps for the most part over the last year, I am going to try to post more photographs shot with my s95 and dslr from now on, beginning with a few additional recaps from Greece! (But perhaps not all 2000 shots. Yep. That happened.)

I'd love to be transported into Andrew Smith's idyllic landscapes on the shores of Auckland, New Zealand and Australia right at this very moment... Swoon.

Smith runs a blog called Before & After where he details his process for using Adobe Lightroom to achieve these results. I'm anxious to get Photoshop Elements up and running on my computer (when I have a free moment - ha!), so I can learn some new tricks!

After exhausting the overpriced food options and duty-free shops, what else is there to do but fidget in a stiff seat and bemoan air travel’s tragic decline? If only there were a comfortable spot to stretch out and take a nap without worrying about someone swiping your luggage. Meet SleepBox 01, a shoebox-size room designed by Arch Group to give weary travelers a place to rest for anywhere between a half hour to several hours. The first full-scale model has been installed in the Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.
The Moscow-based firm has made some radical aesthetic changes to its 2009 proposal, abandoning the white iPod exterior for the warmer look of ash veneer. The inside resembles a boat cabin, with every inch maximized to provide a short-term guest with everything she might need short of a shower: a twin-size bunk bed, a fold-down desk, a nightstand, an LED lamp, a gadget charging station, and electric-drive blinds for privacy."
Pod hotels are nothing new, but I do find the scale and offering of this space intriguing nonetheless.

Stressed out by flying? Travelers at SFO can now find their inner calm in the Yoga Room - the world's first airport studio!

The quiet, dimly lit studio officially opened last week in a former storage room just past security at SFO's Terminal 2 (you'll already have your shoes off, so why not?!). The room is open to all ticketed passengers, contains a few chairs and yoga mats but no instructors or televisions.

I'd say that's an improvement in the passenger experience!

Wanderlusting after an enchanting view of the northern sky (or a visit to Santa) from a crystal palace in the Finnish snow?  Go no further than the Igloo Hotel in Kakslauttanen!

The thermal glass constructing this spectacular igloo prevents the glass from frosting, so your view of the northern lights and millions of stars in the crystal sky is never obstructed, even when the temperature outside drops to under -30°C (my California brain cannot comprehend this type of cold).

A glimpse into our Canadian adventure this weekend... We explored Granville market, walked the entire seawall in Stanley Park (and ran into Mike McCready!!), had incredible dining experiences at the Salt Tasting Room and Guu Izakaya, and last but not least, sat in the 15th row at the Pearl Jam show!!

What a weekend.

Feeling a little overwhelmed with everything that is one my plate at the moment, especially after having been on the road for over a week, and I have neglected the blog much to my dismay... I have soooo many fun posts up my sleeve!! It's killing me. Soon. I promise.

Rollin On Out.

Labor Day always seemed to be so bittersweet as a kid; on one hand it was one final hurrah! for summer - a vacation with the family - and on the other, it meant that school was starting again. But let's be honest, I was never one to dread the start of school! ...Though I was often caught up in the last minute speed read of our summer literature lists (ok, ok, twist my arm, it was more like every year. Some things never change I guess).

In any case, I've been stockpiling some lovely summer vignettes in my files, and it seems like the appropriate time to share them with you all. Enjoy!

Travel Fantasy.

Zanzibar has been on the top of my travel fantasy list for a long, long time. Luckily I've been able to live vicariously through (photographer) friends.

How fabulous is The Rock Restaurant, a seafood joint perched above the Indian Ocean. Depending on the tide, you either walk, swim or row a boat to it!  Yes, please.
