Head Case.

Feeling like a bit of a head case this week as I navigate a challenging deadline for my client, a nasty cold, 20 hours of training (for my exciting new position at the clinic as a health educator!), and the biggest decision of my life. Just another day.

Digging this nearly perfect rendering of a human skull constructed from discarded manuals by artist Maskull Lasserre in Incarnate (Three Degrees of Certainty II).

I don't care how sophisticated your literary tastes, you will enjoy The Hunger Games. I don't think I slept before 2am until I finished the series... and even then, I had to reluctantly force myself to to turn out the lights.  (Am I geeking out about the movie? Oh yeah.)

Naturally, I am drawn to this poster (and infamous line) by Entropy Trading Co.  Isn't it lovely?

Also... the odds seem to indeed be in my favor at the moment, a fact that is incredibly thrilling (and overwhelming). Dreams are coming true my friends... I could not have done it without your love and support. Details soon.

Eide Shoma Mobarak!

We rang in Nowruz - Persian New Year - a celebration marking the first day of spring, with SK's family last week. We feasted on dishes traditionally prepared for the day (sabzi poli mahi, reshteh polo and kookoo sabzi), and family memories were shared from celebrations passed.

I was particularly struck by the Haft Sîn (or, seven S's), the table setting of Nowruz, which has evolved over time but carries significant symbolism and spiritual value. The sabzeh (sprouts) symbolize rebirth, the senjed (dried fruit of the oleaster tree) symbolizes love, the sīb (apples) symbolize beauty and health, the sīr (garlic) symbolizes medicine, the somaq symbolizes the color of sunrise, and the serkeh (vinegar) symbolizes age and patience. Additionally, the sekkeh (coins) represent wealth, the candles symbolize enlightenment and happiness, the mirror symbolizes cleanness and honesty, the decorated eggs symbolize fertility and the goldfish in water symbolize life within life, and the sign of pisces which is the sun leaving. What a wonderful way to welcome the new year.

Eide shoma mobarak, friends!

Scenes from the Weekend.

I had a very cozy weekend which began with Cozy Kitchen's ham and cheese biscuits. Yum!!

I seared up a beautiful slab of rosemary ham for this recipe and would recommend using more than it called for, and perhaps even adding some chives or dried herbs. Happy baking!

In other news... We saw a concert at the Palace of Fine Arts, braved the seemingly endless rain, toasted the Irish with friends and enjoyed a lazy Sunday (featuring my new gadget) in preparation for the busy week ahead.

Tilt Shift Rio: Carnival.

The City of Samba from Jarbas Agnelli on Vimeo.

Amazing. “The City of Samba,” is made up of 169,000 photos from 416 time-lapse sequences, shot in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by Jarbas Agnelli and Keith Loutit.

Make sure to watch through the carnival (at minute two)! What's your favorite float? I think mine passes four and a half minutes in...

It was a beautiful weekend, thank you love.

I love this print campaign for the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra. It showcases macro photographs taken inside of a cello, flute, and pipe organ to highlight their inner workings. The retired flautist in me finds this to be beautifully done - I love how vast the spaces feel. Art directed by photographer Bjoern Ewers.
