I am most excited by LetterMpress™ which has FAR surpassed it goal to create a virtual letterpress environment—released first on the iPad—that will allow anyone to create authentic-looking letterpress designs and prints. To say there has been a growing interest in letterpress among the general creative public, designs and printmakers alike would be an understatement (illustrated by the energy around this project!). Unfortunately, letterpress is difficult to access – and classes are expensive.
LetterMpress’s goal is to give lovers of this art the ability to produce their own authentic letterpress designs and artwork, by placing and arranging type and cuts on a press bed, lock the type, ink it and print. They are collecting what is left of type collections from around the country, to provide authentic vintage wood types and art cuts. Through the application, you will be able to create unlimited designs with multiple colors, and print directly in the application and save the image, to import into other applications.
I see an iPad in my future.
Contribute to LetterMpress's efforts at Kickstarter and watch for its release!
In honor of this delightful, creative method... an etsy round up of fun prints!
